Privacy Policy

Awhile is an iOS and Android application published by ARCKONE SRL (Tournai, Belgium). From Awhile 1.5.1, product measurement and error reporting described in section 3 are off until you actively enable them in Settings > Privacy. Refusing or withdrawing consent stops further collection by OpenPanel and Sentry.

1. Data Awhile does NOT collect

Awhile does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of the following:

Awhile does not use any advertising network, cross-app tracking, or fingerprinting library.

2. Data stored on your device

The detailed information below is stored locally on your phone. If you enable product measurement, Awhile sends only the event and app context described in section 3; your detailed local history and Instagram session data are not sent to ARCKONE SRL.

3. Product measurement and error reporting

From version 1.5.1, with your consent, Awhile sends manually defined product events to OpenPanel, self-hosted by ARCKONE SRL on OVH infrastructure in France at analytics.arckone.com (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Automatic capture and session replay are disabled.

The Settings > Privacy switch is off by default, including for existing installations upgraded to 1.5.1. Only actively turning it on records your consent. While on, events use a persistent random installation identifier and may include an installation profile, app and device context (including brand and model), and revenue amount and currency plus a transaction identifier for purchase events. Context may include screen size, system language and region, memory and CPU, installation age, launch count, and product settings.

No product events are sent while the saved choice loads. Refusing or withdrawing consent stops new OpenPanel events and removes the installation identifier; turning measurement on again creates a new random identifier. Awhile uses the Privacy switch for consent and does not show a separate consent prompt.

The network connection necessarily exposes an IP address to the hosting infrastructure. OpenPanel uses it at ingestion to derive approximate country, region and city. Awhile does not add the IP address to event properties. Awhile does not send your Instagram username, password, messages, captions, exact URLs or account identifiers, nor your name, email, advertising identifier, payment credentials, PIN or biometric material. It may send a closed category for the Instagram section being used, but no free text or Instagram content.

Awhile separately uses Sentry (@sentry/react-native, organisation arckone, EU region at de.sentry.io) for crash and error reports. Sentry can receive the exception stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version and build number. It is configured without a user identifier, screenshots, view hierarchy, session replay or recorded network requests, and Instagram URLs in error messages are replaced before sending.

Versions up to and including 1.5.0 used PostHog EU for product analytics. From version 1.5.1, consented product measurement uses OpenPanel as described above.

Product measurement and Sentry share the same switch. Sentry remains off until you consent and closes when you turn the switch off, for the current and following sessions. The choice is saved on your device.

4. Instagram and your data controller

When you log into Instagram inside Awhile, you are using a WebView that loads instagram.com directly with your own credentials. Instagram receives the same information from Awhile as it would from any mobile browser: your IP address, session cookies, and the requests you make. Awhile does not modify, intercept, store, or forward that data.

For all data exchanged between your device and Instagram, Meta Platforms, Inc. (and its subsidiaries Instagram LLC and Facebook Ireland Ltd) is the data controller within the meaning of Article 4(7) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Meta’s Instagram Privacy Policy governs anything you do on instagram.com.

ARCKONE SRL is the data controller for the data described in sections 2, 3 and 5 of this policy (product measurement, purchase entitlement state, and the obfuscated selector list described in section 7).

5. Purchases and subscriptions

Premium can be bought as a one-time Lifetime purchase or as a monthly auto-renewable subscription with a 3-day free trial. Payment is processed entirely by Apple (StoreKit) on iOS or Google Play Billing on Android. RevenueCat, Inc. acts as our processor to validate purchases and tell the app whether you currently hold the Premium entitlement, including whether you are in a free trial and when a subscription renews or expires. Awhile receives this entitlement and subscription-status information and, in the full analytics mode described in section 3, the revenue amount, currency, and transaction identifier. It never receives or stores your name, card number, or any payment credentials, and there is no Awhile payment server.

Premium state, revenue amount and currency, and the transaction identifier may be included in product events only while you have consented as described in section 3. Awhile never receives or sends your name, card number or payment credentials as analytics properties.

6. Sub-processors

Awhile relies on the following service providers to operate the service. Their roles are described below:

Meta Platforms, Inc. is not a sub-processor of ARCKONE SRL: no personal data flows from Awhile to Meta. Any data exchanged with Instagram is exchanged directly between your device and Meta, under Meta’s own privacy policy.

7. Filter updates

Awhile fetches an obfuscated list of CSS selectors from a public GitHub Gist at launch. Awhile does not add an app identifier to this request. GitHub receives the IP address needed for the network connection and normal HTTPS request metadata.

8. Children

Awhile is not directed at children under 13. Per the Belgian law of 30 July 2018 (art. 7) and Article 8 GDPR, the digital age of consent in Belgium is 13. If you are below that age, do not use Awhile without verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian. Instagram itself requires users to be at least 13.

9. Your rights

For requests about the data described in this policy, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection, contact hello@awhile.app. Removing the app or withdrawing consent in the app or on the website does not automatically delete events already received by a processor. You may also complain to the supervisory authority below.

The competent supervisory authority for ARCKONE SRL is the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, Belgium.

12. Changes to this policy

We update the date on this page when this policy changes. The website measurement choice and the analytics setting inside the app remain separate.

Website measurement

Separately from the mobile app, this website uses OpenPanel only after your active consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). ARCKONE SRL hosts it on an OVH server in France. From the connection IP address, user agent and project origin, OpenPanel derives a hashed device identifier that rotates daily. The IP address is necessarily received by the server to process the request; we do not intentionally send it as an event property. The OpenPanel script is not loaded before consent.

What we measure: page views, scroll depth, reading time on guides and comparisons in fixed buckets, clicks to the App Store or Google Play, navigation clicks, language changes, FAQ openings, contact links and outgoing links. Each event carries a few technical properties of low cardinality: site language, page family, colour scheme, viewport, pixel density and connection buckets, reduced motion and touch preferences, whether your browser language matches the page, and a campaign label taken from a fixed list. We never send your name, email, free text, search terms, advertising identifiers, session recordings or cross-site trackers. The page address and the referring site are used by OpenPanel to attribute the visit.

On your first visit, you can accept or refuse measurement in the banner. The choice is stored in this browser for 180 days. You can change it or withdraw consent at any time through Website privacy settings at the bottom of every page. Refusal and withdrawal stop future website events without limiting access to the site or app. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track also prevent measurement. Withdrawal does not automatically delete events already received; contact hello@awhile.app to exercise your rights. The website choice is separate from the mobile app setting.
