Explore and search share one tab
On Instagram’s mobile website the magnifier in the navigation bar and the Explore grid are the same destination. Hiding Explore therefore hides account search with it: the filter removes the entry point, not only the recommendation wall behind it.
Choose accordingly. If looking accounts up by name is part of how you use Instagram, leave Explore visible and hide the home Feed and Reels instead, since those are separate filters. If you open Instagram to read and answer messages, hiding Explore removes the whole detour, and DMs, notifications, your own profile and any profile linked from a post or a conversation stay reachable.
Combine Explore with the right filters
Hide Explore on its own if discovery is your main distraction. Pair it with the Reels filter if short video is the second route into the same loop. Hide the home Feed too if recommendations begin there.
If you still want posts, Following Only offers a chronological route based on accounts you chose. It is a Premium mode and solves a different problem from simply hiding Explore.
What the filter cannot guarantee
Instagram can place recommendations in more than one part of its mobile website. The Explore filter targets the Explore surface; it is not a promise that every recommended post everywhere on Instagram disappears.
Because Instagram owns the page structure, a web update can require new selectors. Awhile fetches selector updates on cold start, and the support workflow asks for a reproducible path rather than private content.
How to hide Explore in Awhile
